Words of Wisdom

“True healing begins when you learn to face your pain safely and with intention. From that place, you can live according to your values, pursue meaningful goals, and experience a truly fulfilled life.”

About Kelly R. Thompson

Hi, I’m Kelly R. Thompson—a therapist, speaker, and author of Black Women Can Do Therapy: Your Therapeutic Roadmap to Breakthrough. I specialize in helping Black women and their families in the faith community embrace emotional healing without shame. Whether I’m in the therapy room or speaking on stage, my mission is to create safe, culturally rooted spaces for growth, soul care, and real breakthrough.

In addition to her work as a therapist, author, and coach, Kelly R. Thompson brings a rich and dynamic range of experiences that shape her voice and mission. •Global Ministry Roots: Kelly is part of a family deeply rooted in global ministry through The Potter’s House, where faith, healing, and purpose intersect. •Creative Advocate for Women’s Health & Expression: Kelly holds a minor in Drama and carries a lifelong love for the arts. Her poetic voice has found expression through community theatre, spoken word, and written pieces. Her expressive art piece on feminine health was featured in the Summer of Storytellers exhibit hosted by Duke University’s Center for Global Women’s Health Technologies. •Mental Health Leader & Educator: Kelly served as a mental health panelist at the International Leadership Summit, where she spoke into the intersection of faith and mental wellness on a global stage. •Voice Across Borders: As a radio host and featured guest, Kelly’s show spanned audiences from Dallas to Pakistan, addressing topics of emotional well-being and soul care with honesty and hope. •Menopause Educator & Community Leader: She moderated the Surmeno Connection, a thriving support group with over 12,000 members navigating surgical menopause, and coaches women through the physical and emotional journey of menopause. Kelly also educates therapists on the topic—promoting greater understanding, empathy, and outcomes in clinical care. •Bridge Builder Through Story: Whether through media, ministry, or mentorship, Kelly’s work bridges healing, culture, and purpose—helping others live well, lead well, and heal deeply. Kelly R. Thompson, LPC - Associate is provisionally licensed in the state of Texas and supervised by Dr. Carole Gilmore, PhD, LPC-S.

What's the difference between coaching and therapy services?

Coaching and therapy share some similarities, but they serve different purposes. Therapy focuses on healing emotional wounds, addressing mental health concerns, and exploring past experiences that may be affecting your present. It is often deep, reflective, and rooted in clinical frameworks. Coaching, on the other hand, is future-focused and action-oriented—designed to help you set goals, overcome obstacles, and create strategies for personal or professional growth. While therapy helps you process and heal, coaching helps you plan and move forward.
